Common questions about hypnosis and what it will be like volunteering.
Most people associate hypnosis with sleep, but it is actually a state of intense focus where your unconscious mind becomes receptive to ideas and suggestions.
We all experience this in different stages throughout the day. If you've ever binge watched a TV show, read a book that made you feel like you were there, scrolled on social media for over an hour, or driven home and couldn't remember the drive, then you have experienced hypnosis.
What we do on stage is intentionally trigger this state where the imagination takes control. Volunteers will see things that aren't there, smell things that aren't there, and accept the suggestions I give them in that state as truth, which we use for entertainment.
Because hypnosis is a state of focus, you cannot get stuck in hypnosis. The way Daniel's volunteers stay in trance for an hour is because they constantly are given things to focus on.
If you were still in a trance when you go back to your seat, or if the hypnotist had a heart attack like in the movie office space, you would wake up fully on your own after a few minutes. The same way you snap out of it when your phone dies while scrolling through social media.
Hypnosis is all science and psychology. It's a natural altered state of focus that we go into all the time. You'll notice during the induction, special language patterns that speak directly to the unconscious mind. When we work with volunteers, we don't use any otherworldly powers.
Hypnotic amnesia is a phenomena that can be triggered in hypnosis. This may be a part of the show, but when you go home you will remember everything that happened on stage.
This works the same way losing your train of thought works. It will be at the tip of your tongue and you won't remember what you wanted to say, or when you walk into a room and forget why you went in there.
When you volunteer you will have a blast and be glad you experienced it.
Not only will you experience something you can't experience anywhere else, you will be on stage for an hour but feel like you slept for eight. You will be so relaxed it will feel like you had a full body massage.
Beyond this, you will create memories that you will remember for the rest of your life. We look forward to seeing you on stage at our next event.
The great news is that anybody can be hypnotized. Some people go quicker than others however hypnosis is a natural state so everyone is capable of being hypnotized.
That being said, nobody can be hypnotized against their will. If you don't want Daniel to hypnotize you, he won't be able to.
During hypnosis Daniel will give you suggestions, and as long as it doesn't violate any of your core values or sincerely held beliefs, your mind will accept them as true.
This works because you want it to work. It is through your own intelligence and imagination that the unconscious makes it real. If you don't want to be hypnotized, or if you don't want to be a part of the show, Daniel can't hypnotize you.
Everything we do is good clean fun so if you want to experience it you'll be glad that you did.
In hypnosis it is common to tell people to sleep, in fact we call the state a somnambulistic state. The truth is that while the unconscious mind sleeps, the unconscious mind is wide awake. It looks like sleep but everyone is completely aware of everything going on.
When people go to the floor they guide themselves at a speed that's right for them, nobody is unconscious. You may notice when you volunteer you will remember everything that happens, unless Daniel tells you to forget.
This is a common misconception. The truth is the more intelligent you are, the better and faster that it works. It works by the power of your own intelligence.
